iTunes loses sound and songs

Recently I noticed iTunes will go mute, I think it's my stereo I have connected to my G4, but after I pause and press play, i found it was iTunes. Another time when it occurred, i noticed all other sounds from other apps worked, and again i had to pause then play iTunes. I also started to have to manually find a few of my songs that got lost somehow. I have 1300 songs, and i doubt that iTunes can't handle them all. Apple claimed that all my music library can be on a iPod, well all my music is on MP3 CDs and a few on my hard drive.

I've noticed this (or something similar) too ... the song suddenly stops and will then continue after a pause of several seconds. I'm running on 500Mhz (dual USB) iBook ... so perhaps its a performance thang ... it could be that the newer / faster Macs don't have this problem? Could someone with a high powered machine who listens to a lot of iTunes music confirm this??

I wasn't doing anything when it happened. Only AOL IM, entourage and Safari was open. Normally my design apps are on, and I listen to iTunes ALL the time, so something is definitly wrong. Now that I think of it, seems to started around the time I got that new iPhoto, but I have yet to use it since the 31st.

happens to me as well.. i have over 5gb of songs, maybe its the amount of songs in the library?

800mhz g4, 896mb ram

I was hoping that wasn't the issue. I haven't even converted all my CD collection, just my favorite songs, which on average is about 4 per CD. I'm at 6.47 Gigs, and i'm sure i could easily do 10.

I have 11.96 Gig....2212 songs....and I have never noticed any music stopping.

yea, something is wrong then. If i reinstall the system over itself to preserve the users, will that defrag the drive? Or just remove the old with new?
