iTunes mystery

All of a sudden a playlist appeared in my iTunes program. It has a blue icon next to it, which resembles the green music store icon, and the orange library icon. It has a list of 1000 songs on it..it's someone elses music!! Where did it come from? Does this have anything to do with the 100,000,000 song promotion?

Do you have a wireless network? What you see showing up is someone else's iTunes music shared via Rendezvous. To see it automatically you have to be on the same network so either you are accidentally on someone else's wireless network or someone is on yours.

I'd turn on WEP which will encrypt your network and not let in people you don't want.

It also happens if you use a cable modem in certain situations, since cable modem users in a certain block group all use the same subnet/IP range.

You can disable this by turning off "Look for shared music" in iTunes' Preferences. Also, if you don't want that guy/girl seeing YOUR music, turn off "Share my music" under the "Sharing" pane.
