iTunes should have a skip count

I am the law!
We have play counts, why not a skip count?

The play count can be used to keep track of the songs you like the most... it also can be used to find songs that you haven't listened to.

Problem is, if there is a song that you don't like, it won't have a high play count because every time it's played, you probably skip it. So you can't distinguish between the songs you haven't listened to much and those that you don't like (they are different things in my case). There isn't an easy way to figure out the songs you don't like unless you've taken the time to rate them.

If there was a skip count - a value that gets incremented every time you skip a song before it finishes playing - then you could use that to make better smart playlists.

if you agree:

couldn't the rating be of any help in this case? I am not really familiar with itunes, but I thought there was something useful behind the rating..

like i said... in a perfect world all of your ratings would be filled out.

in my case, i usually only rate the songs i like. when a song i don't like comes up, the first impulse is to skip it, and going back to find it to give it a 1 star rating is a pain in the butt.

the whole idea is to automate it more. i personally would like to see a "smart ratings" feature, which would adjust song ratings based on your habits.

I created a smart playlist called "Unrated" (the criteria being all songs with no rating). Every now and again I run through this list and rate some songs; as I do they "fall off" the list. What's cool is I can rate them on my iPod, and when I sync with iTunes my songs (and ratings) are updated as well. Just my $.02.

Marc

Fahrvergnuugen has a good idea there. A skip count would tell me how many times a song has come on and I've said "Bah!" and skipped it. Seems like a sound idea to me.

that brings up another one of my iTunes pet peevs...
say you're playing your "unrated" playlist. In the middle of when a song is playing, you decide to rate it. The minute you rate it, iTunes kicks the song off of the playlist and stops playing
