hey been trying to get onto the Itunes store but it seems i need to upgrade safari to a new version to be able to surf it. i use the link provided which takes me to 'software update', and there is no upgrade for safari!?!?!

how to upgrade it ??? (any possible way, preferably not having to re download it from the internet)

Laptop: OSX Leopard 10.5.2.
Itunes version: 9.0.2.
Safari version: 3.0.4.

Firstly, you access the iTunes store through iTunes, not Safari.. You have the newest iTunes at v. 9.0.2. You may need an iTunes store account.

As for Safari, the newest is 4.0.4. It is available for Tiger & Leopard separately through Apple's web site or Software Update.

Also, if you choose to install the other updates (such as any Security update), You will find that the Safari update is then offered through software update. That will take some time, as the 10.5.8 combined update is quite large.

The reason you may need a newer version of Safari for iTunes is because iTunes is probably using WebKit (Safari's rendering engine) to display Store content.

ok, i ended up downloading the newest safari, and its now giving me this message when trying to instal...
"You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer."

my question is, is it possible to update the computer to this version or has safari fallen out of my reach.

You can use your Software Update to go to 10.5.8 - or, download and install the combined updater. Here's a link to the download page: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866

It's a _large_ download...!
Please remember that's the only way to get to current versions of some software. Run your software update again after that update has installed. You will see other updates are available.
