iTunes suddenly slow as a dead dog

Evening All,

Curiously, iTunes on my Powerbook has become extremely slow, unresponsive and sluggish for apparently no reason at all. If I try to change a song name, it waits for 10-15 seconds before editing the tag, double clicking a song sees the computer wait a similar amount of time before starting to play.

I have tried repairing permissions on my disk but this hasn't helped matters . . .

Has anyone got any ideas that might speed things up for me?

I am running iTunes 6.0.1 on OS X 10.4.3. PB is a 1.67Ghz with 1.5G RAM. My iTunes library is consolidated into the iTunes Music folder.

Cheers for any help offered,

Bob

Is it only iTunes that you are having problems with?

Did you try deleting the Prefernces File (can be found in your Home Folder --> Library --> Preferences: com.apple.iTunes.plist)

Are you maybe running out of space on your harddrive? (You should always have at least 10 % of your drive's capacity free.)
