Wasn't iTune 4.5 supposed to notify of new update automatically if you have that checked in preference? it didn't do anything and i was forced to run Software Update to check to see if it is available and ran update from there.. bleah.. I wanted to see if iTunes actually ever alert me of any update.. hmm...
