iTunes won't open UNLESS I unplug the computer?!

OK, I'm admittedly a techno-idiot, but why must I shut down my eMac, UNPLUG it from the wall outlet, plug it BACK IN and then re-start my computer to get the CD drawer to pop open so I can insert a disc?! I have to do this every time I want to burn a CD! I have OS X 10.3.9 and 7.1.
I greatly appreciate any insight you may offer, because I make a lot of CDs and this is just nuts. -Perry

I think it's time to repair your permissions and disk directory (if you haven't already done so). Check the second post in this thread for step-by-step instructions…

To eject any disc in the drive on start-up, simply hold down the mouse button as you start up your Mac.
