Jaguar upgrade install

I just got the $19.95 version of Jaguar upgrade. I have a few questions which I'm hoping can be answered prior to installing it. First, I don't have the archive and install upgrade option, so I understand I need to do my own backup. In any case, does this installer retain old files such as my Entourage email messages?
Second, I'm hoping, unless I specifically request it, it won't erase my old data files. A silly question perhaps, ,but I don't want to take chances. I will be backing up my data to an external hard disk, nonetheless.

I can't personaly speak for the upgrade install but the reason I am replying is your question about the entourage mail. It is stored in ~/documents/microsoft user data/office x identities/main identity/ as long as you back up your home directory your mail should be safe.

I would believe that the upgrade should retain your old settings, just as any other OS X upgrade
