Hi,

I have a roommate that has a japanese ibook. It's currently running OS 9. We would like to upgrade it to OS X but, i'm not entirely sure if a US version of OS X will work on it. Other than the Japanese fonts, is there any other things to consider?

Thanks,

When you attempt to install OS X from the install disc, the first thing it asks is what language you would like to use. Select Japanese, and you should have no problems.

Just make sure you're using a retail copy of OS X.

One other thing...

I can only read english she mostly does work in Japanese.

Is it possible to install as english but have her user account be only in Japanese?

Thanks,

Yes. OS X is perfect for that. When setting up the iBook with OS X, choose English as the primary language (or Japanese, doesn't really matter, or rather, depends on who will be administering the iBook) and then set up _two_ accounts. One in English, one in Japanese. They shouldn't bother each other at all.
