Java 1.4

Does apple OSX have a JRE or JDK for the new Java 1.4? It has a bunch of new cool API's and the performance is much better then 1.3.1.

No, they don't. It's expected in late spring/early summer. I agree that the improvement that have been made are exciting. However, you can still get by with asserts by using your own assert class and Apache's logging code is supposed to be even better (it's called log4j) than the stuff that's standard in 1.4.

I don't mean to come off as an apologist. It sucks that Apple isn't keeping pace with the current java standards. I want to write code using the latest APIs but I can't because it won't run on the mac. Hopefully, they'll get it out soon.

I know what you're saying vanguard ... i wish Mac OS X was up to date with Java and other projects. Mac OS X should or does have a higher market share when it comes to desktops with non M$ os's but linux is embraced more;maybe because OS X is quite young but they should still realize it's potential. Sun made java to be the cross platform solution, right ....!?

This could probably be another thread but i think Sun should make a version of the upcoming star office 6 made especially for OS X rather than ask for volunteers. I wouldn't spend ~400 bucks for M$ office on my Mac.
