Java Preferences.app aborting

I needed to install Java 1.6 (JavaForMacOSX10.5Update1) so I could run a Java Application that requires 1.6. I then went to "Java Preferences.app" to set the default VM to 1.6.

Each time I run Java Preferences.app it aborts without displaying the window for setting options.

Here is the top of the error log:

I tried removing all of the java preferences files I could find. This did not work. I tried reinstalling the Java Preferences.app from TimeMachine. No help.

I even tried reinstalling the whole Java Framework tree from TimeMachine. No help.

Any help would be appreciated. My guess is that there is a corrupt plist file somewhere --- I just don't know where to look.
