I am just doing a little spring cleaning (to follow up on a previous post - http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44897)

I opened a .mpg in QT, quite big - 370 mb, and suddenly the computer (think its the hard drive) starts crankin and cruching - sounded painful - the movie stops, as does Itunes, and the cursor spins. Then the fans start going faster than Ive ever heard - sounded like a quite version of a jet engine with nails inside!

I opened the machine, still crunching and left it for 6-7 mins. It finally stopped - and the fans where still going (kind of like a jet engine but without the nails now). the OS came back to life - the movie played and Itunes started again.

I am writing this post about 30 mins after the incident and the fans have only just now slowed back down.

I eperience this quite frequently, and well, what the hell is that????

Did you do what was suggested in the other thread, which was check each individual RAM stick to make sure you don't have a bad one?
