Just a few Newbie questions...

Hello. I just switched to OS X from Windows XP. My question are:

When I'm browsing about in the Finder, is there any way to set my folder options so that every folder I open in the future is viewed in "List View" mode?

Also, I have noticed when I shutdown my computer and restart, my "Macintosh HD" icon will move elsewhere on my desktop. Is there any way to "lock-in" my icons?

Thanx for your help.

Open a folder. Near the top-left corner of the emerging window there should be three icons over the text "View." Select the one in the middle. Close the window. Done.

Yeah, thats what I have been doing. In XP, in the Folder Options, you can select "view all like this folder", and every folder you open in the future will look like that. Thats what I'm looking for.

and every folder you open in the future will look like that.

Sorry. I thought that's what the method I shared with you would do. Otherwise, I wouldn't have shared it with you, as it would have seem to be me saying, "Don't be lazy."

Ah, well, lets allow the newbie and the not-so-experienced-after-all await a response that actually works... :)

For the first part:
Open the Macintosh HD into List View... Then from the top menu select View and then Show View Options (or simply press Command-Apple key- & J). There you will find many additional options AND the For All Windows :D

As for the second part:
Click anywhere on the Desktop and from the top menu select View and then Show View Options (or simply press Command-Apple key- & J). There you will find many additional options and give a shot at Keep Arranged by and Snap to Grid...

As for the article that bobw showed you to read:
READ IT - READ IT - READ IT ;)

Oh, and welcome here! :D

The method above looked promising. Doesn't work for what ShadowTech intends, though.
