I hope I am in the right place to ask this...
Forgive me please if I am not....

What is the difference between Tiger and Panther?

I am soooo very new to all of this and I just got my PowerBook about 2 weeks ago... and I have not been on a computer in over a year... and before that I was using my boyfriends G3... and before that I was a PC user...
So again I am very new....

Tiger and Panther are the code names (well, they're using them as product names since Jaguar) for the OS. Tiger is Mac OS X 10.4, Panther was Mac OS X 10.3. Your brandnew PowerBook (unless you got a used one) should have 10.4.x installed and probably can't boot any earlier versions of the OS. Don't be afraid to ask further questions. :)

For starters... Thank you for the quick reply... and also... Was this the right place for this question???

My PowerBook is Brand New... so I am running OSX-10.4.4...
Is this the very latest??

And where do I go to learn "ALLLL" about my new baby???

You'll learn it here. But you're right, it was the wrong forum. I'm moving the thread to Mac OS X System & Software. :)

What model of PowerBook do you have, what's it equipped with, what do you intend to use it for? I'm sure you'll get some answers 'round here.

It is a PowerBook G4 12"...

and I want to Learn EVERYTHING... so that I can be really Mac savy...
I want to do Video stuff and .... hhhhhmmmm well I don't really know, What I want to do with it.... But I want to be able to do everything... and do it well....
I spend at least 6 to 8 hours a day on it... Just trying to learn about all the stuff it has....

Again Thank you for directing me to the right place... and BTW I am not sure what you mean't by what my PowerBook is equipt with..teeheehee...
I told you I am NEW... VERY NEW..... heehee

It just has what it came loaded with... I assumed that it had everything when I bought it... I am now finding out that I want MUCH more.... but then again don't we all......

BTW... Did you move my post and am I in the right place now?????

PS... What is Jaguar???

Welcome to the real world of computing :)

Jaguar is just an OSX release, such as Tiger is a release for for OSX 10.4 and one release was called Panther. Next release of OSX is going to be Leopard, OSX10.5, All the wild cat names and guess that's how our web browser was called Safari ;)

i skipped Jaguar and Panther to tell you what the differences to Tiger are, but I'm sure if you want to know more, anyone here with the experiences can fill ya in :)

I guess it sounds sexier than ... Kitty.... teeheehee...
Being that Mac is a very is a very sexy computer...

I am still learning so much.... and I just wanted to know that I had the latest OS....

Quick tip 4 U to know what you PB is equipped with.

In the Upper Left corner click on the Apple, then choose about this mac.
In the window that appears you will notice under Mac OS X the version you have i.e 10.4.x, click on the text and the build will appear, click again the serial number is there. Processor and Memory installed is there too.

On the tech side click the more info button and "System profile" will open, scroll through left menu and will learn all the details about your sweet PB wether hard or soft.

Enjoy the discovery it's a lot more fun and intuitive than in the wintel world, and enjoy you stay in this forum a lot of helpful and willing people to help.

BTW congrats on your signature I like it

Also, while in the Finder (Desktop) or any application, open the Help Menu at the top of screen and you can browse through all the topics. A lot of learning there.
