I started the security check of www.secureie.com ... and this machine thinks ActiveX can attack my Mac through Safari !

Good luck.

I think it's great that they warn internet users against these security holes, but first they have to look at who's actually got the holes, not assume everyone uses an unprotected Windows IE version...

Yes, and it also makes me not trust these people to fix IE at all. You can't fix a problem if you can't correctly identify it.

I hate those messages... I always look at them and think, "No I don't, you stupid shit." LOL...

Heh, right...

They don't even check to see what browser you have. I just checked it, in NS 7, and it gave me that page. :p

I found this site. It's funny. Be sure have 'Block Windows Pop-up' UNchecked in Safari. When you load this site, you'll see Netscape v85.5. That version of Netscape is not yet existed. The software is PC only. But this site will say your computer is Mac. The site thinks the Mac is PC.

When I go there (pop ups was off) it said I had Windows and Netscape 85.5

A little digging got me these brilliant lines of code.

...
document.writeln("else");
document.writeln(" userAgent = 'Windows';");
document.writeln("<\/script>");

So basically if your response to their OS query returns anything other than the various Windows, it just says Windows.

Really, who are they kidding? Is onlyone on a mac or linux machine really going to be tricked by that?

:rolleyes:

I clicked on it, and I got a pop-up telling me there was a security update for Mac. Out of curiosity, I clicked it, and it came up with pretty much the same thing. LOL, how stupid... what if I were running Linux? Oh wait, that's a version of Windows too! :rolleyes:

It did get my browser right, though: IE 5.17.
