Kernel panics on IMAc

Hi,

I have a iMac, the system info says its iMac 7,1
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.20f4


I have installed macos 10.6 on it, and it works just fine on 10.6.0 - 10.6.2 however on 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 I get black screens of death often. click on a app, any app and chances are it will black screen, even just looking at mail it black screens while i am reading it. same happened while looking at the activity monitor etc.

I have tried formatting and reinstalling , using the zero byte reformat, tried it with nothing other thanthe system apps installed and it still gets the black screen on 6.3-4

Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can try to make it work with 10.6.4?

Try a fresh, clean install of 10.6, then use the 10.6.4 Combo updater immediately after loading 10.6 to bring the system up to 10.6.4.

Any success?

hi thanks for the suggestions, I have reinstalled 10.6 and used the combo update to 6.4 , while i am not getting black screens on there (so far), finder becomes unresponsive, eg, i can move the mouse around, but cant click on anything on the screen.

I have tried disk repairs and permission repairs etc, no go
