Key events in background like Konfabulator?

Person that uses a Mac
How would I go about handling a key down even in a program that runs in the background like Konfabulator does with it's F8 key?

I have a question anyway... In windows, the database that we created will stored in "MYSQL" --> "Data" folder. Where is the database that I created will stored in MAC? and where I'm gona to find it?

Hope someone can help...
