help.
i can access capital letters on the keyboard using the 'CAPS LOCK' key.
NEITHER OF THE SHIFT KEYS ARE WORKING.
This prevents me from inserting Individual Capital letters in sentences.
I also cannot access other characters, such ae ' speech marks', 'question marks', 'ampersand', currrency symbols'.

can anyone suggest what has happened and hw i can correct this problem.

i have only had the machine for a month or so and am new to MACS so I am searching in the dark really.

ciao

You probably just have a bad keyboard. You can verify this by connecting any USB keyboard to your Mac. If the shift keys work on any other keyboard, then you know it's your Mac keyboard.

I'd take it back to the store where you bought it, tell them you tested it and specifically ask them if they could swap a keyboard out of a returned (or even new) Mac. They should do this for you even if they have to open a new Mac box, as they can ship it back to Apple for full credit anyway. No need to make you wait for the "official" Applecare troubleshoot/repair runaround.
