Keyboard Shortcut for Character Set Switching?

Hi!

I am brand new to macs. Like, so brand new it still has that "new computer" smell. So I am wondering, is there a quick keyboard shortcut for switching between US Character Set and Japanese? Otherwise I have to click up at the top on the flag everytime, and thats annoying. One of the reasons I got a mac was cause the windows support of Japanese is FAR from universal.

thanks

Yeah, it's command-space ("command" is the key next to the space bar, also known as the "apple" or "flower" key).

If that doesn't work for you, it's possible it was disabled somehow. You can re-enable it by going to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, and looking for the shortcuts listed under "Input Menu".

I'm also in Japan and occasionally switch over to Japanese characters. On my keyboard it's command-option-space.

I'm not sure but I think the standard Japanese keyboard has a single button that takes care of this.

You can change either the Spotlight shortcut or the input menu shortcut. Both can be customized in the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane (among other places).
