killing ads with hosts/NetInfo IE issue

I followed http://www.macwrite.com/criticalmass/mac-os-x-hosts.php and set up NetInfo to point all the ad URLs to 127.0.0.1. It works, and OmniWeb works perfectly, Mozilla will right away give a message that it couldn't connect (possibly customizeable), but IE actually times out when trying to connect. Sometimes it will actually not load the page at all until it times out trying to connect to the ad page or image. Very irritating. Anyone know how to make IE not do this?

I did email the author, but the email bounced. Mailbox was full. I didn't know there were forums there; I found the page in a Google search.

ya I spoke with the author, his e-mail box is full. when it shouldn't be. some problem with mac.com I guess.
