LaCie d2 Firewire cd burner not working with iTunes 4

Just bought LaCie d2 Firewire cd burner.
Won't work with iTunes 4 - shows as 'available' but refuses to burn.
Works fine with Toast (which I don't like because of the default 2sec gap between tracks - which I keep forgetting to change before burning.)
Suggestions appreciated. Please and thanks.

What exactly does iTunes do when it refuses to burn your CDs? Any error messages? Does it actually start to burn and then stop, or does it fail to start at all? Does it spit the CD back out and tell you something, or does it just sit there, unresponsive? Please be more specific.

Runs through the initialization process then cancels burn with error message. (Machine is currently running Disk Warrior so can't check.)

Hmmm... have you tried it with different songs and playlists, or does it only do it on a specific playlist? Also, what kind of files do you have in the playlist? iTunes should be able to make a music CD from a combination of WAV, AIFF, MP3 and AAC files, but sometimes a rogue MP3 will give iTunes trouble. I've seen it happen over here with Toast -- it hits a certain MP3 file while it's processing them, then unexpectedly quits. Removing the offending song from the playlist helps.

Hmmm... howabout trying it in a different firewire port (use a different one on the back of the drive, and also try with a different firewire port on the Mac itself)?

You may have just gotten a bum drive, too -- if switching around ports doesn't work, it may be time to call Lacie and see about a replacement.

Setting track gap to 2 secs solves the problem. Not useful though - unwanted gap would foul smooth play of live and other albums.
