Lagging/Failing file transfers to Windows share

At work (24" Aluminium iMacs running 10.5.7) I'm finding that copying files to a Windows Vista shared drive (secondary hard disk in one of the PCs), is getting flaky after a little while, with console entries listing the Finder as experiencing an Allocator race condition (See attached pic). The end result is either the files fail to copy, or the copy hangs for a long while before completing.
It can be temporarily fixed by unmounting and remounting the share, but it returns after a short while.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this issue?

I had a similar problem at a clients a couple of months ago. What you're experiencing MIGHT be due to statistics and 'delayed_acks'. If you're not scared of the command line, have a look here and here. This gives a bit of related background as to what is is you're changing.
