laptop recommendations

I need to pick up a new Apple laptop to do Java development and site testing. Any recommendations as to what a good Apple laptop for the job would be? Any new ones on the immediate horizon? Any bad ones to avoid? Thanks. I'm currently using both Linux and Windows 2003 for development, now we are going to add OS X compatibility as soon as possible.

Apple just released the 1.5 GHz G4 powerbooks, and if you get one of those, be careful, because i might follow you around and steal it. In all seriousness it's a wonderful machine, but maybe you don't need that much power.

Well a noteboook might be good for your need. IMHO opinion right now the new higher end iBooks are a better value than the Powerbooks. However, you know your needs so you might want to look at the tech specs for Powerbook and iBook and decide for yourself.

For development purposes, an iBook will suit you fine. You can buy the book and buy some quality development software with the money you save over a Powerbook.

doesn't java run too slow on any mac? I think for your purpose a lowend pc laptop might do (God, I can't believe I said this).
However, if you want to have a good laptop (phewww) I would second Randman: iBook G4

Normally I'm a big fan of the g3 iBooks, but for Java work they're just not enough. Java is painfully slow on the Mac X platform.

You might be able to find a closeout deal on one of the PBs from before the redesign, but you're only likely to save 200$ or so off the price of a new one. Not enough savings IMHO to justify not buying the closeout. If I had to pick, I'd go with a 15" PB with the 1.5ghz G4.
