Hi, all. You might remember me posting this problem several months ago, when I had to have my *first* keyboard replacement on my iBook. Well, that lasted a couple months, then I had to have a *second* keyboard replacement. (By the way, the problem was purely cosmetic--some of the letter keys were rubbing off--nothing functional at all. But still, you pay good money, you expect it to be perfect.) Anyway, the Apple people at the Genius Bar were awesome. Excellent, efficient, quick service both times. They had the keyboard in stock, so I simply waited at the bar (my only complaint is that they didn't offer me a beer--I mean, I *was* at a bar, sheesh!) while they replaced my keyboard. My computer was still under warranty and they asked no questions at all. Just looked me up in the computer and proceeded with the work. No hassle. No charge. It was great.
They (the Apple Genius Bar employees) explained to me that there was likely a bad shipment of iBook keyboards and the two replacements that I had--because they were so close together--were probably from the same bad batch. And I think they're right. Because *this* one is perfect. It's been several months now (the others were already starting to wear off by this time), and there is no sign of wear.
Just wanted to share this with you all, in case anyone else has a late 2004 model iBook and had the same problem.
