Launching an email window

If I am browsing the web and I come to a site that has a 'contact me' button, on my G5 Entourage automatically opens and a new mail window opens ready to be filled and sent.

On my iBook, if I click on a link to send an email a small icon briefy appears in the dock, splutters and vanishes. I then have to cut and paste the email address into a mail window. Both machines are using Firefox (the problem still exists in Explorer) and are running 10.3.9.

I've looked in all the preferences and nothing jumps out at me.

Any clues?

In Apple Mail's preferences (launch the app, click Mail -> Preferences), do you have your default email program set to Entourage? Is there something other than Mail or Entourage set there? Firefox will look at that preference, and use the program selected there as the app for the new mail message.

What does the icon that pops up in the Dock look like?

dmetzcher,

Your advice has saved the day. I changed the preferences in mail and selected Entourage. Oddly, there was already an Entourage selected but it had some odd coding added for the file name.

Anyway, all things are now running as they should.

Thank you for your kind help all the way from deepest Kernow.

I'm glad it worked. It was a shot in the dark, but I thought that you might have had a problem that I thought could come up, based on what I've seen on my own machine. Sometimes, there are multiple versions of an application in those popup lists, and, though it's never happened to me, I've often wondered what would happen if I selected the wrong one, or if the wrong one somehow got selected by the OS.
