left window opean and when i closed it there is a square white area on my screen?help

Guess i left a program in the same place for too long and when i closed it there is a big blank white spot where the program was do i need to restart for this problem or can i refresh the os somehow.thank you for your time and have a nice night and sry abou the title mis spell
