Leopard can't find internal hard drive

When I try to install Leopard on my iMac, it tells me that it can find the USB hard drive that is plugged into it which I plan on using for Time Machine but it can't find the internal hard drive. When I go into the disk utility program within the leopard install disk, and try to format it, it tells me that the disk is busy or unable to format. What do I do know?

After booting up into Tiger, I went to Disk Utility and I verified my master hard drive and it came back with errors. Could that be why its not willing to install Leopard on my iMac?
