Hi all,

I'm knew to MAC world, and leaving Windows. I have a DSL connection over an USRobotics 9003 router (wired), running with no problems on a PC (Windows XP).

I have bought the lastest iMac 24" on the market with Leopard around 3 weeks ago. I plugged into my USRobotics 9003 and looked to work fine, until.... there is no connection to the web, neather from my PC or Mac.

Well my workaround is reset the router, and I can surf for a couple of hours, then it hangs again. This workaround is a pain in... What can I do, so I can forget resetting my router at once?

Thanks in advance and Best Regards.

From what you are saying you can take the computers out of the loop. If the issue keeps happening the firmware in the router could be corrupted. You may want to look at a hard reset of the router. It will restore the router back to factory settings and you will need to reconfigure your router again. That is unless you can access the web interface of the router to find an option to back the settings up to .cfg file or something like that.

Thanks Gjackman,

I already took the Mac and the PC out of the loop. If I only work with the PC or PC's there is no problem, the router doesn't hang. The router firmware is up to date.

When I connect the MAC to the router, there is no problem at the begining, you can surf internet, later on I notice that the downlink speed decreases considerably, lets say 90%. If I have a coffee break I can not surf anymore unless I reset the router. That can be every 2, 8 or 10 hours.

I have downloaded a driver from USRobotics for OS X, installed it, and it looks that the downlink speed doesn't decrease but .... my router still hangs.

It looks that I have improve the performance a bit but not enough, still looking for the final solution.

From my understanding you were having issues with both the Mac and PC(s). Just because the firmware is up to date doesn't mean it isn't corrupt. You may want to check the age of your router and what kind of security you are using(i.e. WEP, WPA). I've had issues with older routers running WEP wreaking havok with machines running later versions of OSX.

You are right, the firmware could be corrupt, but it has been working with no problems for, at least, the last two years with Windows XP. The router is wired not wireless. If I unpluged the MAC ethernet cord and work only with Windows XP I have NO problem with the router.

It only appears when I plug or connect the iMac to the router.

Did you try different ethernet cable and a different ethernet port on the router? Other than that sometimes Wake on LAN settings can cause weird issues like that. That setting would reside under system prefs/energy saver section.

Yes, I have tried a different cable, but I have not swap ports, that's something I'll try today, but... I'm affraid I'll get the same results. Anyhow, I'll let you all know.

I do not understand what the enegy saver has to do with this issue.
