I inherited a powermac g4 from work and plan on using it to develop some iphone apps. I got an upgrade disc and discovered it didnt meet the system requirments. I used nvedit to bypass the check in the installer to let me install it (i had some help from a friend who uses macs; this is my first experience with mac) he found what i needed to put in and store and then it said im supposed to reset the nvram. It installed successfully so i went to reset the nvram by holding command-option-p-r until the start up sound went off twice (as per apple's web site's instructions) now all that happens is the computer sounds the startup sound once and the screen comes up with "video mode not supported". What can i do to fix this?

You're not resetting the NVRAM when you reboot and hold command-option-p-r. You're zapping the PRAM.
Resetting the NVRAM is different. You will need to boot into open-firmware (hold down command-option-o-f at boot), and then type "reset-nvram" and press enter... then type "reset-all" and press enter. Your machine will reboot.

UPDATE: I tried to boot the computer and was able to get it to pull up the screen for the Leopard install, the problem is i somehow wiped the data off the nvram that convinced the installer that my computer met the minimum system requirements. Because of that (i had to wipe tiger off) it is trying to load the OS but is failing and it won't let me reinstall beacuse it is now seeing it doesnt meet the minimum requirements; what can i do to get to the nvedit utility to allow me to edit it? (or another option that will get it to work)

You may need a working installation of Mac OS X version 10.3 or 10.4 to use this software. It may help to go back to where you obtained the computer from and inquire about acquiring the original "Restore" CD/DVD that came with the computer -- it certainly would help.
