Let's talk upgrades...

So what's up with the whole upgrade market. There are all kinds of early model G4's (like my 400mhz AGP) out there and the only upgrade path is the Sonnet Dual 500 card that may or may not work depending on ROM version (or something).

The Mac upgrade market is so behind the times. Why? Why are companies concentrating on early PPC upgrades (601, 603, 604, 603e...etc. and G3's) when there are thousands of users who'd like to upgrade their 2 year old G4's.

Are there other upgrade options ( other than a new system of course ) that I'm not aware of?

Why can't Apple make their processors with a ZIF style socket, like in the wintel boxes? That way, it would be easy (in PowerMacs anyway) to buy a new processor, rather than add in a card. Of course, I don't mean to use a Pentium socket, because then some smart-@$$ would try to put a Pentium in a Mac or a G4 in a PC.
