library on desktop?

Hi every body.
I love my imac G5 as it has never given me any drama and is simple to operate.I especially like rubbing this fact in to my friends with pc,s anchored to them.
But you cant always help what the operator of the above g5 does ie: me.
It seems that ive dragged the administrative library folder onto the desktop and now things have dissappeared and other things dont work.Such as ,account log in piccies have gone,some widgets on dashboard have dissappeared and im being told things like my garageband instrument library is invalid and safari comes up with the statement that im missing some internet plug ins.
Where does this folder belong?
Can i just put it back?
Will i have to reload OSX tiger?
Any assistance greatly appreciated.Thankyou all.

Which one do you mean exactly? /Library or /System/Library or /Users/yourusersshortname/Library? Either way: Put it back before changing/working too much first.

Using get info on folder just tells me that its called "library" and thats it.
The reason i thought it had something to do with the admin library is that its got the login pictures inside it.
I really dont know where it came from and dont know where to put it

The 'Get Info' 'Where:' field will state where the selected item is; not where it should be.

Do the following:
Double click on the 'Desktop' based 'Library' folder. A window displaying the 'Library' folder's items will appear. Does the window contain a folder titled 'Dictionaries'?

If yes, drag the 'Desktop' folder icon onto the upper right most 'Desktop' icon (the icon of your boot drive).

If no, and the window contain a folder titled 'Safari', then select 'Finder's 'Go, Home' menu item ('Command <shift> H'); a window, titled with the current users name, will appear. This is the current user's home folder's window. Drag the 'Desktop' based 'Library' folder icon onto the current users home window.

You cannot 'move' the '/System/Library/' folder to the 'Desktop'. Instead, a copy of the folder would be created.
 
You need to move it back into your "Users/home" folder. The problem is, there is probably another one already there because the OS needs it to run, so it re-created it. You will have to overwrite the existing one if there is in fact one already in there.

If it isn't already in the Users/Home folder, then you should be able to move it there with no problem.

Once you do, restart from the original OS install DVD and run Disk Utility to check the drive for problems and repair permissions!
