Lighter weight laptop?

Hi there!
My mother (68 yrs old) has a 13 inch 1.25 ghz (I think) white iBook. She needs to get a new one. She doesn't have much money to spend. She paid around $400 for the one she has. She wants one that is lighter than the one she has now. Of course she wants a larger screen but not more than 15 inch. The same size screen would work if it is lighter in weight.
Can anyone make suggestions?
Thanks,
R

No. For that kinda money, you _won't_ get a lighter model with same screen size or larger. No 15" will match the weight (and price). The one you'd want would be a MacBook Air, but that's gonna cost quite a bit more.

For a Mac with those specs? Good luck in finding one.

What does your mum do that her iBook is not enough for her? Maybe an external hard drive would be a solution to achieve more and to not go over the budget.

As fryke said, MacBook Air would be the only Mac matching the description, except its price starts from around $ 2k.

Or, if we don't limit the search on only the Macs, she could pick any two: $ 400 price, lighter laptop, 15" screen. Dell among others would have some very plain (and big) 15" laptops for $ 400, or there would be Advent or Mini Inspiron 9 as for very light ultra portable laptops with that budget but with 9-10" screen, and so on.
And if searching second hand models, she probably would have to pay more for even the model of iBook that she is using now.

Thanks for the replies.
Let me get more specific. For a small computer it feels like a brick. Apple was always talking about thinner and lighter as things developed. She dual boots Tiger and Leopard and has a 125 GB WD external USB drive.
Space is not the problem. I am looking for the semi-vintage model that first got much lighter.
My 15 inch Intel MacBook pro "seems" lighter than what she has now.
Thanks

The MacBook's aren't bad -- not the lightest thing in the world, but light enough. Plus they're thinner.

They were the first redesign since the iBook, so it's the only option you have unless you go PowerBook, which are typically more expensive.

You can find early MacBook models for around $600 to $800 sometimes... Craigslist, eBay, etc. I find mine to be extremely portable, durable, and quick.
