line appearing on screen on a G5

Hi All,
I recently moved house and packed up my g5 in its box, handled it with care and set it up in my new house. However a line now appears to the left of the screen, which was not there before. The cursor passes under the line, and the position of the line which is the width of a pencil line running from top to bottom on the monitor is about 2 cm from the left edge of the screen. It pretty much dissects the apple icon. Its a bit annoying and I was hoping some one could help me please?!!!

Thanks,

Kevin

Did you pack up the screen with the same level of care ? If it is a TFT or LCD screen I would say you have damaged the screen rather than the G5. I have come across the same thing on a couple of powerbooks which was resolved by a new screen.

One thing to try is if you have another computer around there, hook the monitor up to the other computer and see if the line persists. If so, then the damage, like Tommo said, is with the monitor -- not the computer.

LCDs and TFTs are extremely delicate. Even if you protect the screen from direct damage like from something poking it, jarring or bumping the box around could cause that kind of damage.

Hopefully you are under warranty and a trip to your nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar should take care of it.

I had the same problem on my G5 only a couple months after I got it. The line was not the result of poor care on my part, though. The computer sat on my desk in my office the whole time and was not touched. I took it in under warranty and they replaced the screen. They did forget to reconnect the CD/DVD drive, but fixed it when I brought it back.
