Linksys Wireless WRT54G Issue

I have a new 24" iMac and my old Linksys wireless router that I had hoped to use to make a home wireless network. I've followed instructions in multiple forums to get the wireless router up and running but can't get it quite right. Once I get everything connected and set-up as I think it should be, the router shows it has Internet, the iMac shows it's connected... but I can't get on the Internet. Any ideas?

Has this router ever been o directly on the ISP modem before this? I ask because an ISP modem registers the MAC address (not Mac) of that directly connected device. Then do this because that is always how it's been done, however there is a simple fix. Just reset (by either reset button on the modem or powering it off for five minutes) the ISP modem.

Then connect directly to the router via ethernet and get into the router (consult you router's manual on the log in username/password: just put in the browser the "router address" found in System Preferences->Network) and log into the router). See if the router gets now an address from the ISP modem.
