Hi all,

I'm considering running Debian on my G4 1GHz ibook but have some questions:
1) To what extent does sleep work?
2) I have a external belkin bluetooth adapter that works with my one-button Apple mouse, which I enjoy using. Is this combination supported under Linux?

I understand that Airport Extreme doesn't work at the moment due to a lack of drivers but hope that work is in progress in this area.

Thanks.

Eric

I installed Yellow Dog Linux on my iBook. It ran fantastic, but was disappointed that most of the software I use only run on PC Linux versions (mostly on Red Hat Linux)

Airport Extreme is probably never going to work as Broadcom can't release the specs to the drivers as the card broadcasts in a spectrum that the military uses. Don't hold your breath for open sourced AE drivers.

Sorry to go a little out of topic.

Have you tried searching with yum or on the internet for an RPM of the Linux x86 version of software you are looking for?

If the YDL RPM versions of this software isn't available, have you tried compiling from source?? Most of the compilation is basically a "./configure; make; make install". Unless you are talking about commercial games, which unfortunately have favored the x86 side of Linux.

Not only commercial games, but commercial software in general. I use MATLAB a lot and it only comes with a version for x86 Linux. I need Java for writing client side programs. The only Java VM that is close to being up to date is the IBM JVM, which only has a server VM (not good, as now my Java clients take 3x as long to load).

PPC Linux is still not suitable for the general masses. Go for it if you're a hardcore geek or are a firm believer of libre software. Forget it if you aren't.
