Linux PS2 Kit

Well, it's kinda cool all right, but...

...

...I just don't see what the point is.

And as my friend pointed out, you just know that Microsoft is going to do the same thing with the Xbox, so there goes that.

if Microsoft tried to put Windows on my XBOX... i swear i'd go nuts!

if Apple tries to make OS X for my XBOX... well $hit I forgot they can't put it on an x86 processor... damnit!

Hate to break it to you, but your X-Box already contains a Windows CE/2000 variant, and most games most likely use Windows CE/2000 to run.

This is why you should not support the X-Box. It's a Windows box in drag.

You can. They just don't want to.

I think that's one major reason why Microsoft is having a hard time selling the X-Box to consumers. Games for the X-Box are coded using (I assume a variant) of DirectX, which allows the games to be VERY easily ported to PCs. In fact, there were rumors of Microsoft REALLY selling that point to PC game developers. The problem, of course, is that a lot of people are holding off on the purchase of X-Boxes because they figure the games they want would be ported to PCs soon anyway.

The truth is, other than Halo, there really isn't a killer game or franchise on the X-Box. Maybe that'll change. We'll see.

This was my first reaction when I read about that Sony would be doing this. However, I then read an article where a guy built a server farm out of Playstation2's running linux. He said they're just as good as a regular PC, but way the heck cheaper. Then I saw the point :)
