Little problems with Garage Band

I'm still relatively new to the world of Macs, but there's been a couple of things I've been having problems with...

In Garage Band, when I am just recording a single track with one microphone, it will sometimes stop and give me an error that says something or other about a "slow disk" and then a -101 or to that effect.

If anyone has any knowledge or advice they can share with me, I'd be extra thankful. Extra.

garage band needs a lot of resources, and disk usage is one of them. try freeing up space, or even using an external HDD as a scratch disk
