Local Administrators and Active Directory

Is there any way to set up Active Directory users as local administrators? We have teacher machines where only one person will (mainly) use the machine, and we would like to be able to give the users the ability to install programs and do updates on the computers themselves.

The majority of users are using 10.4 Tiger, but I'm sure in the future we'll have to figure this out for 10.5 Leopard too.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking if you go to each of those teachers machines and make a local Admin account (That only they and you know the password) Then have them sign on with the domain account. So when the Mac needs an Admin password they have a password. Or you can personalize their domain accounts too.
