Locking Dock Icons to the Dock?

My father and I are currently teaching a pair of 80 year olds (computer newbies) how to use a mac. However, they have a habit of dragging icons out the dock, and then of course Poof! its gone!

My question is, is there anyway to physically lock icons to the dock, so that when dragged they just stay in place. I know that it does this when the application is open, is it possible?

Thanks in advance

Adam

PS: It still  me how they managed to delete System Preferences, AFTER we (my dad and I) had used it previously !

OS X Server does allow for this type of restriction, but I don't recall seeing this on a normal OS X workstation. You might find more on this in the System Preferences/Accounts section. If I find more on it, I'll pass it along here.

**Edit**

Did take long to check.. I VNC'd into my mac, created a new account and clicked on 'Capabilities'. From there you are able to restrict that user from the following:

- Use Simple Finder
- Remove items from the Dock
- Open all System Preferences
- Burn CDs or DVDs

You can also restrict what programs they are allowed to launch.
