Login SPOD..

I think I am close...

I have a couple of iMACs with 10.3.9 installed.

I've applied all the latest updates.

I've run reset permissions disk utility.

The "normal" user of the system can login fine. Almost everybody else ends up with a Spinning bar and the system hangs to the point where I need to power it off. I have let it spin for over an hour, but it never returns.

The IDs are Active Directory IDs. I know the ID is good, because I can use it to log into a different 10.3.9 system fine.

After doing some digging, I found a trick to ssh in and see what is going on. MCXAppItem is taking 80-100% of the cpu. If I kill this process, the login proceeds, and things are fine until I login again.. and need to do it all over.

I also found something about com.apple.MCX.plist. So I compared the copy on the system that works against the one on the system that did not. On the one that works, there were two extra lines.

<key>MyRememberedWorkgroup</key>
<string>mcx-off</string>
When I added these to the file on the non-working system.. it started working for that account.

So I can fix a few users, but I would think that there is a model or an option I have set so that they get built correctly.

Anybody know where?

Thanks a bunch
