Logout and Leave Apps Running

This question is this: Is there any way that one can logout and yet still leave apps running? Example leaving iChat running but being officially logged out?
 
Nope. The exception though is command line apps, not sure if they all behave that way but the ones I've tried do.
 
In a way, iChat's always running. The InstantMessaging FrameWork does it. It's just not logged in all the time. You don't even need iChat open to get notifications.
