Well the topic about sums it up. Do any of you have one and recommend it? I'd like the price to be $400 and under.:)

I have a Pioneer A04 in a firewire external case that I love. Try checking out www.pricewatch.com and just find a tried and true burner in an external case. It's the best route to go IMO.

I just purchased a LaCie FW DVD-R drive with the Pioneer DVD-R 105 in it from MacMall. This is the one in the case prceeding the new D2 case. I got it for $340 (as opposed to the D2 for $399). It does not need any firmware upogrades to write at 4X. Hope this helps.:D

External drives come in a casing that allows the drive to be read by the computer. These casings have a bridge ib it, most popularly the Oxford 911 bridge which allows any IDE drive (hard drive, CD-R/RW, DVD-Rom or DVD-RW) to be used as a Firewire drive.
Check Macsales.com (Other World Computing to see what they have to offer.)
