Lost access to 'Mail'

Mail was outside of my apps when the system automatically updated. As a result Mail can not be accessed. Following message tells me why: "You have Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)."

Is there a way to upgrade Mail so that it is can be used on 10.6.8? Or, is there any other solution??? Thanks!

Mail version 4.5 for OS X 10.6.8 sounds right.
Could it be this issue?

Is your Mail app located in /Applications, or has it been moved to some subfolder? - Apple apps should not be moved from where they are installed by the system.

Thanks! Mail is back!! I tried and number of things and sources but wasn't getting anywhere. Your suggestion was right on. I appreciate your help and directions.
