Low speed of network connection?

Hi all, I used to stream video from my PC to XBMC but have recently converted to an iMac (which I love) but since moving to iMac I've noticed the transmission rates from iMac to XBMC is extremely slow (via wireless).

Both are hooked up to a Netgear WGT624 router and are on an internal network (so upload and download of actual Internet connection is irrelevant). With Windows I could check straight away what my connection rate is (108Mbps or 54Mbps) but I've no idea how to check via Mac! Any recommendations?
 
I found out where to check the network connection speed and it's only at 11mbps :( Any ideas what could limit that? Appears to be the same on different routers (checked on my neighbours)
 
Hi there, I bought the iMac about two months ago. It's an Airport Extreme wireless card :) Is there anyway of checking what protocol is in use (b or g)?
