low tech! SQUEAKY iBook HINGE!?

I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this question to, but I'm not sure where else to turn.

My wife has a new iBook (the one with the big screen) and whenever she opens it the thing CREAKS like a sound effect from an old horror movie...quite loudly in fact.

Is there something I can loosen or somewhere I can lubricate to solve this problem?

Thanks,

ak

Yup, this is right place to ask. I'm [formerly] an iBook owner as well and the best way to handle the 'squeeky hinge' syndrome is simply lubing it up. I found it best to use chain lube for bikes, you can get a little bottle for $3.99 almost anywhere. It stops the squeeks and doesn't attract dirt/grim like WD-40 or other more popular lubricants.

Just don't get any in the vents right behind the hinge.

Go to the store where you bought it from and tell them to fix it with all speed!! You didn't pay $$$$$$$$ for wintel-like problems!!!!!
Of course, if you bought it online, you'd have to send it in :-(

Personally I bought my iBook from the Apple Store. I would go right back to them and demand that they fix it on-site at once or give you a replacement iBook.

That's my two cents....

If I was the store clerk, I'd look at you funny, lube the hinge, then hand the thing back to you. ;) And think you're a nutcase. :D

Joking!

haha i agree... but anywho, lube does the trick... i have a smaller one (500mHz) and "skate lube" did the trick... then i used it on my skates...
