lsof process and CPU usage

As of today, I've been noticing my internal fan (Macbook) has been spinning up real fast like it does when under a big load and I looked at the activity monitor and its the "lsof" that is taking up almost 100% CPU and causing that. I can force it to quit but it comes back a few minutes later. I don't know much about this process (through some searching I've found that it lists open files, but I don't see how that applies to my problem) but can anyone point me in the right direction to finding out why this is showing up and taking up so much CPU constantly? Thanks!

PS: OS X 10.4.8

I figured out what it was. I didn't know I could look at a process hierarchy but I found out it was a new widget doing that so I got rid of it and killed the process and it's no longer a problem.
