Mac 10.4.11 with DP4.5.1 crashes instantly

Mac PowerBook G4 800mhz. with 10.4.11 running MOTU DP4.5.1 crashes instantly upon going into play or record. As soon as you try to get the machine to move on its own, it crashes. Any ideas?
 
Does DP 4.5.2 also crash?
DP 4.5.1 looks quite old,
"This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:
Mac OS X 10.3
Mac OS X 10.2
Mac OS X 10.1"
 
I have not tried 4.5.2. Would you recommend it with 10.4.11? I have no budget for DP at this time, and am just fixing up an older laptop for my son to record with in his band. I have almost every Mac OS since OS7, and could install 10.3.? on this 800mhz PowerBook if necessary. If I we're to take his route, do you have a recommendation on which OS version is a good combination with DP 4.5.2?
