Hi,

I want to reinstall my Mac G4, but I can't boot from dvd ('C' during boot).
Also tried 'alt' during boot: My dvd isn't displayed.

After login (on my 'old' installation) I can choose the dvd as my startvolume but with no effect.

How can I boot from my dvd? Could I boot into the shell and start the dvd from there? Or could I start the installation without booting from the dvd?

Any tips or hints are appreciated.

Hmm... Can you try to make a copy of the DVD? Sounds to me like the Mac - at boot time - doesn't recognise this DVD.

Unfortunately I don't have a dvd writer. Only CD-RW.
I have to mention that it's not the original recovery set. I got a .dwg of the dvd, converted it to an iso file and burnt it with a pc. Looks like the autostart feature was lost during converting/pc burning.

What about the following idea?
I create a second partition, put the content of the installation dvd on and try to boot from this partition?
Do I have to copy some systemfiles on this partition to have it bootable?

oh. well... that's gonna be difficult if the bootable-info was lost in the process. try getting the original back.
