So i got a Mac G3 Blue and White from a friend to record with ProTools. After playing for a while, OSX 10.4 was released and I upgraded to it from ] 10.2.8. When trying to run ProTools after the upgrade, I got an error saying that the Digidesign hardware was obsolete with OSX 10.4. I immediatly began back dating the OS to the previous 10.2.8. Something happened during installation, and it locked up. I reset the machine only to get a grey screen with a small folder flashing the "Apple face" and a question mark. The installation disk is in. Now, after a few times of trying to boot it, all i get is a grey screen. This unit has an aftermarket Sonnet G4 processor. Im not sure what the problem is. Has the BIOS been wiped? Is the RAM bad? PLEASE HELP

Thank you

You can try a couple of things to see if you can get it to boot.

First off, it never hurts to zap the PRAM (hold cmd+opt+p+r after startup chime until you hear the startup chime for the third time).

So assuming you have the Jaguar installer in the drive, when you boot, hold down the "c" key, telling it to look to the cd drive as the boot volume.

Alternately, try booting while holding down Cmd+Opt+Shift+Delete as startup, telling the Mac to bypass the main boot volume and look for other bootable volumes (cd, firewire, network, in that order i think)

If none of that works, boot into Open Firmware mode by holding down Cmd+Opt+o+f at startup until you get a white screen with a Command Prompt and then type reset-all and try the above steps again.

Good luck!
