Mac Messenger 7 Instant message problem... Snow Leopard osx

I have Microsoft Messenger for Mac 7 and when I send an instant message to someone offline I always have....the following message could not be delivered. This happens when they send me an instant message when I am offline. When both online everything works fine. They are using a PC... I am wondering what the problem is and how to fix it..Thanks. I am using Snow leopard on a mac mini.

Thanks for your reply JeffCGD. I am new to this messenger thing but the person at the other end of my contact list reckons that if one sends an instant message to another who is offline, the message will still be delivered and appear when the receiver goes online or signs in..
